How Do Racking Inspections Work?

Our pallet racking inspections use a three-stage colour-coded risk system that helps warehouse managers prioritise repairs based on the level of urgency.

Green: Minor damage detected but still safe for continued use. Monitor regularly as part of your routine checks.

Amber: Damage present that requires action once the affected area is offloaded. Repairs should be completed within four weeks. If not addressed, this will be reclassified as Red.

Red: Serious damage requiring immediate offloading. The racking must not be used until repairs are completed and confirmed as safe.

After every warehouse racking inspection, your Person Responsible for Racking Safety (PRRS) will receive clear recommendations and immediate alerts for any Red risks. All findings are documented in a detailed report with supporting photographs for audit and compliance purposes.

Cantilever Rack Inspections

We also carry out cantilever rack inspections to the same rigorous SEMA standards. These inspections are tailored to the specific loading and structure of cantilever systems, helping identify issues such as arm deflection, upright bending, and baseplate wear. Our inspectors ensure that every component meets load and safety requirements, keeping your storage environment fully compliant and fit for purpose.

Why Warehouse Racking Inspections Matter

Regular racking inspections are essential for maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive warehouse. Over time, forklift impacts, overloading, and general wear can weaken uprights and beams, putting staff and stock at risk. A professional rack safety inspection not only identifies issues early but also provides the evidence you need to meet your legal obligations.

Compliance & Industry Standards

Under UK law, employers must keep work equipment, including racking systems, in a safe condition, as outlined in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER). HSE guidance also recommends that pallet racking is inspected regularly by a competent person, with a formal expert inspection carried out at least once every 12 months. Our annual racking inspections are designed to help you meet these responsibilities, reduce safety risks and demonstrate due diligence. With clear reports and practical guidance, we make it easier to stay compliant and keep accurate records.
