Pallet Racking Upright Repairs

Damage to pallet racking uprights is a common issue in working warehouses and something our team sees regularly. It is often caused by forklifts, handling equipment or pallets striking the frame.

A bent, twisted or dented upright can affect the structural performance and load-bearing capacity of the wider racking system. The damage should be reported and assessed by a competent person. If it affects the safety of the racking, the affected area should be offloaded and taken out of use until remedial work has been completed.

DC Space & Storage Solutions provides pallet racking upright repairs nationwide. Work is carried out by SEIRS-qualified installers using methods and components suitable for the identified racking system, with manufacturer instructions, BS EN 15635 and relevant SEMA guidance taken into account. Clear completion records are provided for your maintenance and safety records.

Urgent work can be managed through DC Rapid-Fix, with repairs scheduled within 24 hours once the damage has been verified and teams on site within five days.

Front and Rear Pallet Racking Upright Repairs

Front uprights are particularly exposed to forklift and reach truck impact at the aisle face. Rear uprights can be damaged by pallets being placed too deeply, displaced loads or contact within drive-in and drive-through racking.

Our team checks the complete affected frame, including the upright, bracing, base plate, floor fixings and nearby connections. This helps identify related damage that may not be immediately visible.

Common Causes and Related Issues:

•    Forklift, reach truck or pallet truck impact
•    Pallets striking the frame during placement or retrieval
•    Loads being pushed too far into the racking
•    Repeated contact in narrow or busy aisles
•    Loose floor fixings or displaced base plates
•    Damaged or missing upright protection

Repairing or Replacing an Upright

The correct action depends on the racking system, manufacturer, upright profile and extent of the damage. Damaged uprights should not simply be straightened, heated, welded or modified.

In some cases, a repair method may be available for the identified system. It should only be used where it has been assessed as suitable and accepted by the manufacturer. In other cases, the damaged upright or complete frame will need replacing.

DC identifies the existing racking system before specifying the work. Components are not assumed to be interchangeable, particularly when dealing with older, modified or discontinued systems.

Reducing Future Upright Damage

Repeated damage may indicate an issue with upright protection, aisle clearances, traffic routes or loading practices. DC can recommend suitable rack protection, arrange regular inspections and manage racking repairs through planned maintenance.

Our Rack Safety Awareness Training also helps warehouse employees recognise damage, report incidents correctly and understand the action required.
